Pendleton Home & Blankets are American treasures, woven in their more than 100 year old woolen mills in the Pacific Northwest. The wool is sourced from farms throughout the western states and blended with other wools around the world. Their American Indian Trade Blankets are not just fashion; they are a tradition. More than half of all blankets are sold to Native Americans, given as rites of passage throughout life. A tour through their two factories in Pendleton, Oregon and Washougal, Washington juxtapose state of the art weaving equipment with 100 year old floorboards and workers who have an average of 35 years of experience.
For a dozen years, Engstrom created national launch campaigns for the company’s legendary blankets, introduced top of bed collections, bath and beach towels and home furnishings – all with the iconic Pendleton stamp. When approached by the Smithsonian for a donation to the Museum of the American Indian, we instead created annual Native American artist designed blankets, sold at wholesale to the Smithsonian, which they sold to raise valuable funds. The result is nearly $2 million donated to the museum to date, with ongoing funds that create a lasting legacy for the future.
